The heart-wrenching incident occurred when the child came down to the ground floor from the first floor of a rented house, where she lives. The dog, which was left unleashed, attacked the child.

Her father was there at the scene, and he rushed to save the child, but despite fighting hard and managing to pull her away, she received serious facial injuries.

Dog’s Caretaker Arrested

Meanwhile, police have arrested the dog’s caretaker, Jothi, while the original owner is currently abroad, according to the investigators. The Pit Bull was adopted by Jothi’s family without obtaining a licence to keep it. Authorities say it is mandatory to obtain a licence to keep an animal under local pet ownership rules.

Terrified over the incident, the girl’s family has refused to speak to the media.

Meanwhile, the dog has been seized by the Chennai Corporation, which has now kept it at a civic-body-run animal shelter.

Pet Rules In Chennai

Following a recent attack on a five-year-old girl by two Rottweiler dogs in a public place, the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) imposed stricter rules on pet ownership, especially regarding dogs in public areas. The unfortunate incident took place in Chennai’s Thousand Lights area, prompting authorities to take strict action.

According to the revised rules, it’s mandatory for the owners to leash and muzzle their pets in public parks. Moreover, they are allowed to bring only one pet at a time to the park.

As per a Chennai Corporation notification, the pet owners must also obtain a pet license. The notification states: “Companion and pet dogs will be checked for license compliance.”
