New Delhi: A man set fire to a shop owner and also burned his turban shop at Guru Tegh Bahadur market on Saturday afternoon in Ludhiana. The accused had filled the victim’s mouth with a flammable liquid and also held a flaming stick in his hand.
He burst into the store, spit liquid on the man and set it on fire. Soon the entire store was engulfed in flames. The incident was recorded by a surveillance camera installed outside the store.
The victim identified as Gurdeep Singh, 55, escaped amid the flames and was rescued by eyewitnesses, who took him to GTB Hospital.

The accused is husband of a female employee that used to work at Gurdeep’s shop till a few days ago. As per the information given by police officials, the victim had tried to record nude video of the woman, which is why her husband assaulted Gurdeep.
Sub-inspector Gurshinder Kaur, SHO, Model Town police station, said the victim, Gurdeep, suffered serious injuries on his face, neck and other parts of the body. His condition is said to be very critical.
In the initial probe, the police found that a woman named Nisha was working at Gurdeep Singh’s shop till Wednesday. Her husband attacked the shopkeeper and burnt the shop. Police traced Nisha and on questioning, she said that the victim had ill intentions towards her.
She said she told her husband about it, which could have prompted the attack. The allegations are yet to be ascertained.
However, the police suspected that the woman was making up a story. This was verified only after recording the victim’s statement.
The police official added the police were recording the statements of the victim’s relatives so they can file an FIR. Meanwhile, a CCTV camera installed near the scene recorded an image of another man accompanying the defendant wearing a helmet.
