Chandigarh: Just Before the Jalandhar by-election, the Aam Aadmi Party has given another big blow to the BJP. On Friday, Mohinder Pal Bhagat, son of former cabinet minister Chunni Lal Bhagat, joined the Aam Aadmi Party. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann inducted him into the party.
During this, AAP Punjab General Secretary and Mandi Board Chairman Harchand Singh Barsat, Jalandhar West MLA Sheetal Angural were present.
Before Mohinder Bhagat, Sushil Kumar Rinku, who contested the Punjab Assembly elections 2022 on behalf of Congress against AAP candidate and sitting MLA Sheetal Angural, joined AAP. Now the party has made him its candidate for the Jalandhar bypoll. As far as Jalandhar West is concerned, AAP is the only party. There is no competitor left for the opposition parties. Local councilors and leaders are also giving their support to AAP MLA Sheetal Angural leaving their party.

BJP’s Jalandhar West in-charge Mohinder Bhagat is the son of Bhagat Chunni Lal, a minister in the SAD-BJP government. Mohinder Bhagat has twice contested from Jalandhar West on BJP ticket. He was the chairman of Medium Industries Development Board Punjab from 2007 to 2011. He has also been the Vice President of Punjab BJP from 1998-2001 and 2017-2020.
Joining of Mohinder Bhagat in Aam Aadmi Party has further strengthened the party in Jalandhar. Former candidates of two opposition parties in the Punjab Assembly elections have now joined AAP. This indicates a one-sided victory for the party in the Jalandhar bypoll.
