Chandigarh: According to the orders issued by the Punjab Government on Monday, the 1993 batch I.A.S. Adhikari Anurag Verma will be the new Chief Secretary of the state. He will take over as the 42nd Chief Secretary of the state on 1 July 2023. He will replace the present Chief Secretary Vijay Kumar Janjua who is going to retire on June 30, 2023.
Anurag Verma is at present Additional Chief Secretary Home, Industries and Commerce, Legal and Legislative Affairs, Information Technology and Investment Promotion. According to the new order, apart from the Chief Secretary, Verma will also have the additional charge of Principal Secretary Personnel and Vigilance.
Born in Patiala to a family of teachers, Anurag Verma’s father was a chemistry professor and his mother was an English teacher. His native village is Chalela in Patiala district. A gold medalist with a degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering from Thapar College, Patiala, Verma came seventh nationwide in the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) examination in 1993.
After rendering excellent and efficient services as Deputy Commissioner of Bathinda, Ludhiana and Jalandhar districts during field postings, Anurag Verma rendered exemplary services in various departments at the Head Office. As Special Secretary Revenue, he took special initiative of computerization of revenue records and introduction of Fard Kendras in the State.
