In a major development pertaining to Noida International Airport, DGCA has issued calibration certificate to the airport. The Noida International Airport Limited (NIAL) informed that Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has given its approval for the runway at the airport. NIAL on Thursday said that DGCA has issued the calibration certificate and this certification has now paved the way for trial of commercial flights at the earliest. NIA completed the calibration of the Instrument Landing System (ILS) and Precision Approach Path Indicator (PAPI) on Monday. Noida International Airport on 15 October had informed about the calibration, carried out by Airports Authority of India (AAI) with DGCA’s support. NIA wrote, “It represents a crucial milestone in our journey towards operational readiness, ensuring the highest safety standards for aircraft operations.” A Beech King Air 360ER had commenced the calibration process on 10th October. The process got concluded on 14th October. The successful completion of the calibration process was informed by NIA on Tuesday. It wrote on X, “We have successfully completed the calibration of the Instrument Landing System (ILS) and Precision Approach Path Indicator (PAPI) at #NIAirport. A Beech King Air 360ER from @AAI_Official began the calibration process on 10th Oct, with the process concluding on 14th October.” Chief Executive officer of NIAL, Arun Vir Singh expressed his happiness on the issuance of calibration certificate and said that the trials can now be conducted anytime soon. He said, “Without the DGCA’s calibration certificate, which proves that all systems are in place for the landing and take-off of flight, we can’t start trials on the runway. We were supposed to start the trials from November 15 and continue till December 15. But now that the DGCA has issued the calibration certificate, we can start trials any time now. This is crucial for maintaining operational efficiency and minimizing delays at the airport. While A precision approach path indicator (PAPI) is a system of lights positioned at the sides of runway, which provide visuals indications to pilots regarding their correct descent angle during the final approach. The construction of this airport is set to ease the travel experience of people and provide convenience in air travel. It will provide them an option to escape Delhi’s IGI and board the international flights from Noida itself. The first phase of the airport will feature one runway and one terminal, with the capacity to handle traffic of 12 million passengers annually. Upon completion of all four development phases, the airport will be able to cater to 70 million passengers per year. Noida International Airport (NIA) will apply for aerodrome license by December. The trial of commercial flights on Jewar Airport will begin soon and Airlines like Indigo, Akasa Air and flights owned by Airports Authority of India (AAI) will take part in this trial. According to NIAL officials, the first commercial flight from the Noida International Airport will take off on April 17, 2025.
