Singh was previously the mayor of the NDMC. Singh was a Shiromni Akali Dal councillor from GTB Nagar and the corporation’s Civil Lines zone chairperson before joining the BJP in 2020.

Praveen Shankar Kapoor, Delhi BJP spokesperson, said, “The MCD has been going through a difficult phase, which is why the election, the appointment of the mayor, and the appointment of the leader of the opposition for the councillor body all took time, but it has been a good decision as Singh is a very competent man who will maintain a proper system of check and balances.”
