The Chief Minister also announced that the monthly assistance under the Ladli Behna Yojana will be increased to ₹3,000 by the year 2028. Referring to the case involving Congress councillor Anwar Qadri, the CM asserted that anyone who breaks the law will face strict action. Scheme Initially Launched By Shivraj Singh Chouhan

It is worth noting that this popular scheme was launched by former Chief Minister and current Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan ahead of the 2023 assembly elections. According to political experts, the Ladli Behna Yojana played a significant role in the BJP’s return to power in Madhya Pradesh.

What Is Ladli Behna Yojana

The Ladli Behna Yojana is Madhya Pradesh’s largest Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) scheme and played a major role in the BJP’s victory in the November 2023 assembly elections. Under this scheme, the government transfers around ₹1,575 crore every month to the bank accounts of 1.29 crore women beneficiaries. When the scheme was launched, the government promised to gradually increase the monthly assistance from ₹1,000 to ₹3,000. However, the current amount remains ₹1,250, and there has been no progress toward the promised hike.

Opposition leaders, including former minister PC Sharma, have criticised the government for failing to fulfil its commitment to raise the amount to ₹2,500 or more. Further complicating matters, there has been no consideration to expand the scheme to include new beneficiaries or lower the age limit from 21 to 18 years. The government also ruled out any increase in the maximum age limit of 60 years to make more women eligible for the benefits.
