Karnataka: CID arrests 38 teachers in recruitment scam, raids 51 locations

Bengaluru: Karnataka Criminal Investigation Department (CID), in a statement, said 30 special teams constituted by the department conducted raids at 51 locations in the state and arrested 38 teachers on Wednesday in connection with the irregularities in the teacher recruitment process in 2012-13 and 2014-15.

The CID, earlier arrested 22 persons, including teachers and staff of the education department, and with the recent arrests, the total number of arrests in the case has gone up to 60.

CID officials said the arrests were made based on a report submitted by the Department of Public Instruction in the ongoing probe into the case.

According to Indian Express report, the arrests came after the CID found out that more teachers were involved in the recruitment scam, an investigation into which was initiated based on complaints registered at the Vidhana Soudha and Halasuru Gate police stations in August and September, respectively.

The irregularities were a part of the recruitment process of grade 2 assistant teachers for government high schools in Karnataka.

Among the arrested teachers, 24 worked in Kolar, five in Bengaluru South, three in Chikkaballapura and five in Chitradurga district.
