A man from South Bengaluru, Hulimavu, allegedly killed his wife and packed her body in a suitcase before alerting his in-laws, said police.

The suspect has been identified as Rakesh Kumar, who hails from Maharashtra and resided along with his wife Gauri Anil Sambekar, 32, at a rented accommodation in Doddakammanahalli, Hulimavu, for the past one year, police said.

On Thursday, Kumar had a dispute with his wife and allegedly killed her. Later, he packed her body in a suitcase and informed his in-laws in Maharashtra.

When the woman's family members approached local police in Maharashtra, the Hulimavu police were contacted, and a team rushed to the spot.

As the investigation proceeded, it came to light that the suspect fled the city, leaving his wife's dead body behind. When police tracked his phone, his location was found in Pune, following which Hulimavu police contacted their Pune counterpart and arrested the suspect. He was booked on charges of murder, and an investigation is underway to bring him to Hulimavu for further investigation.
