Bengaluru: There is good news for Bengaluru commuters as 10.8 km toll-free Major Arterial Road (MAR) is expected to get operational soon. The opening of this road will enhance connectivity and provide seamless travel experience. The road will connect southern and western part of Bengaluru and is slated to be open to public within the next two months.
About Major Arterial Road (MAR)
The 10-lane stretch, running from Challaghatta (near the Namma Metro depot) on Mysuru Road to Kadabagere Cross on Magadi Road runs parallel to the Nandi Infrastructure Corridor Enterprises Road (NICE), located roughly 2 km away. It serves as an alternative to tolled NICE corridor. The road will slash travel time between two parts of the city and reducing it to 10 minutes from the current 1.5 hours.
Furthermore, the stretch provides connectivity to Bangalore Development Authority (BDA)’s Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Layout. The road passes through Kambipura, K Krishna Sagara, Bheemanakuppe, Kommaghatta, Kenchanapura, and Sulikere. The estimated cost of the project is Rs 585 crore.
TOI quoted BDA engineer who stated that the construction work is in full swing and MAR will be soon ready to open for traffic. He said, “While work on a railway underpass is in full swing, we are awaiting the completion of Challaghatta Metro depot work to enable us to take up work on about 300 metres of MAR on the Mysuru Road side. We’re hopeful that over the next two months, these issues will also be resolved and MAR will be ready to open for traffic.”
