Bengaluru: If you are a metro commuter, then pay attention to this news, as metro rides are going to be costlier in Bengaluru from Sunday. Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) on Saturday announced that it has decided to revise the fare structure which will be effective from February 9. The Corporation said that the maximum fare would be increased by around 50 per cent.
The base far for the first 2 kilometres remains at Rs 10, while the maximum fare has been raised by 50%, increasing from Rs 60 to Rs 90. The fare price has been fixed following the approval by the BMRCL Board on January 17.
Smart Card Discounts Retained
While the fares have been revised, BMRCL said that it would retain the existing 5% discount on Smart cards only. The notification read as, “To offer an additional 5% discount on Smart cards (discount @ 5% Peak Hour + 5% off peak Hour- effective 10%) for travel during Off-Peak hour based on the time of entry into the Metro system. Off peak Hours: From Start till 8 am, 12 pm to 4 pm and 9 pm to closing hours on week days.”
It further said that 10% discount on Smart Cards will be applicable on all Sundays and National Holidays (January 26, August 15, October 02) uniformly throughout the day. BMRCL has asked the commuters to maintain the minimum balance of Rs 90 in their smart cards.
