What Residents Believe

Some residents and people living nearby claimed that the land on which the apartment was built was once a burial ground. They suggested this might explain the presence of the skulls and bones. This theory, shared by a few long-time residents, has added to the mystery surrounding the discovery. A senior police officer acknowledged the possibility raised by locals but said the claim is being treated with caution. He emphasised that no conclusions will be drawn until the forensic report is received.

The clean-up operation was carried out by the civic authorities after multiple notices were sent to the Residents’ Welfare Association (RWA). According to a Times Now report, the stormwater management system at the apartment complex — which houses around 45 flats and has been occupied for the past ten years — was not functioning properly. The complex has 16 such pits, but reports indicate that the human remains were discovered in only one of them. The disturbing incident has sparked significant concern among residents. The Begur Police have launched an investigation under Section 194(3)(iv) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023.
