Artificial intelligence (AI) has proven to be a boon in today’s technological era. It has aided human in carrying out several tasks.

Now, Bengaluru police is preparing to enhance AI-powered surveillance on roads of Bengaluru by installing AI-enabled cameras to check traffic violations.

According to the reports, to facilitate traffic management system in the city, Bengaluru Police has already installed AI-enabled cameras at 50 major junctions of the city.

What Will AI-Enabled Cameras Monitor?

With these cameras, Traffic police is set to monitor 13 types of traffic violations including overspeeding, mobile phone usage while driving, failure to wear helmets and seat belts, red light jumping, stop line violations, and triple riding on two-wheelers.

Now in major addition to the strict traffic monitoring in the city, six new violations will also be detected by these cameras which includes illegal number plates, wrong side driving, wrong parking, overloaded goods vehicles, damaged or broken mirrors and illegal parking.

This step will curb the traffic violations in the city, as traffic control officers will ensure smooth vehicular movement in the city.

Until now Bengaluru traffic police has used AI-enabled cameras for effective traffic management in various ways. They have been used to detect violations as cameras can detect and record over speeding, people not wearing seatbelt or using mobile phones while driving. It can also generate automatic challans for people violating the rules. It also helps in monitoring the traffic flow as it can read number plates. Importantly, it can provide record and provide videos which makes the task easier for traffic police officers.

Along with all this, AI-enabled cameras can also track movement of flagged vehicles, cattle on the road, waterlogging situation, violations of entry prohibitions by heavy goods/ passenger vehicles, unattended objects, baggage or vehicles, uncovered debris in trucks, garbage on the road, damaged infrastructure, potholes. Broken headlights, tail lights, vehicle with smoky exhausts can also be checked. Lane violations can also be tracked through these cameras.
