Bengaluru-Chennai Expressway Update: The Bengaluru-Chennai Expressway is an under construction 260-kilometer expressway which is set to transform travel experience of commuters. Once completed, this stretch will reduce the travel time between Bengaluru and Chennai from 6 hours to just 3 hours. The total cost of building this expressway is Rs 17,900 crore. It will pass through Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.

The four-lane, high-speed corridor will enhance connectivity by connecting the southern states of Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu. The route supports the speed limit of 120 km/h. The Bengaluru-Chennai expressway has been developed under the Bharatmala Pariyojana Program. The expressway starts from Hoskote in Karnataka and ends at Sriperumbudur in Tami Nadu.

The expressway has been designated as National Highway 7 or NE7. It is currently partially operational. The stretch constitutes of 41 underpasses and 17 flyovers.

Karnataka Stretch Open For Public

The 71 km Karnataka stretch of the expressway is open for public since December 2024 and is toll-free. While construction work is underway in Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu stretches.

The expressway is developed in three phases in Karnataka. The first segment stretches 27.1 km from Hoskote to Malur, second segment with the same length extends from Malur to Bangarpet. The third section covers 17.5 km from Bangarpet to Bethamangala.

When Will Be The Stretch Ready?

The latest update on the opening of the Tamil Nadu stretch of the Bengaluru-Chennai Expressway is that it is expected to be completed by August 2025. The Tamil Nadu section has faced delays due to several reasons which include land acquisition, monsoon season disrupting the construction work.
