Bengaluru Cafe Horror: Staff Assaulted for Refusing Extra Coffee Cup, CCTV Footage Sparks Outrage

A shocking incident unfolded at Namma Filter Coffee in Bengaluru’s Seshadripuram, where a staff member was brutally assaulted by a group of customers after refusing to provide an extra coffee cup. Caught on CCTV, the video shows the staffer being punched and kicked over a simple policy-related disagreement. The case has sparked outrage and renewed concerns about rising violence against service workers in the city. Police have launched an investigation, and calls for better protection of hospitality employees are growing louder.

In a brutal assault that has again put spotlight on growing aggression towards service staff, a worker at trendy Bengaluru café was physically attacked by a group of customers when he refused to oblige their request for an extra coffee cup. The attack took place at approximately 6:50 PM on July 2, 2025, at Namma Filter Coffee in Seshadripuram.

The group, reportedly, had bought a cup of coffee and then demanded to be given another unused cup, apparently so they could share. When the employee refused politely on the basis of company policy which does not involve free extra cups, the customers got nasty. He gave them the option of suggesting that they buy an extra cup instead. But the group retaliated with verbal abuse which turned violent.

The whole attack is filmed on the café’s CCTV camera. The worker is seen in the footage attempting to explain to customers before he is attacked on his head. He was then punched on the face and kicked several times in the abdomen. The video has gone viral and has since sparked public outrage and calls for increased action to protect frontline workers.

A complaint had been filed at the Seshadripuram Police Station. The authorities have taken cognizance of the case and are currently investigating the same. The identities of SFI activists are yet to be ascertained, but officials claim that they are analysing the recordings of the CCTV cameras to identify the perpetrators and act accordingly.

This horrific incident contributes to a mounting list of incidents reported from Bengaluru in the recent months, where customer anger and sense of entitlement have precipitated public outbursts of violence, particularly against delivery staff, auto drivers, and service professionals.

Some have pointed out that violence culture and disrespect for plain decency are becoming a normative lifestyle, especially in urban strongholds. The service industry, already creaking from manpower shortages and long working hours, now has another issue on its hands: the safety and sanity of workers.

As the inquiry goes on, the public and colleagues alike keep mounting pressure on the abused employee, seeking immediate justice and additional protection for employees who directly interface with customers.
