Bengaluru: Bengaluru residents will face monetary fine of Rs 5,000 if they use drinking water for purposes like car washing, gardening, etc. The repeated offenders will get additional penalties said the city’s water board. The decision came after Bengaluru faced water crisis in the summer of 2024.

“The use of drinking water for activities such as vehicle washing, gardening, construction, decorative fountains, entertainment purposes, and any non-drinking purposes in cinema halls and malls, as well as for road construction and cleaning, is strictly prohibited within Bengaluru city,” said the city’s water board, reported NDTV.
The board has further asked the residents to report violations by dialing the call center number. It further said that the groundwater levels have significantly declined with increasing temperatures.
According to the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board, violators will be fined Rs 5,000 under Section 109 of the Water Board Act. Additional penalty of Rs 5,000 will be imposed on repeated offenders, with an extra Rs 500 for each subsequent day of non-compliance.
Meanwhile, the electricity supply will be affected in several areas due to emergency repair work conducted by Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Limited, said Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (BESCOM). The 66/11 KV Kumbalagod Substation will undergo maintenance work on Wednesday. According to KPTCL’s official website, the electricity will be snapped from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm according to TNPDCL. The affected areas include Bheemanakuppe Village, Anchepalya, Babusapalya, Vinayaka Nagar, Fish Factory Gerupalya First Milestone, Anchepalya, Pintobare Gudimavu, Devagere, Gangasandra Anepalya, Doddipalya and others.
