CAUVERY WATER DISPUTE
The longstanding Cauvery river water dispute between the southern states of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka has spanned several decades. Tensions escalated of late following a directive from the Cauvery Water Management Authority (CWMA), instructing Karnataka to release 5000 cusecs of water to Tamil Nadu for a duration of 15 days.
For the unversed, the Cauvery river originates in Karnataka's Talakaveri region, traverses through Tamil Nadu, and eventually empties into the Bay of Bengal.
