It is still not clear if its ‘Honour Killing’ case or just an accident, police is still investigating the matter closely as boyfriend blames woman’s father.
Authorities in Bengaluru Rural are investigating the death of a 20-year-old woman who drowned in Huskur Lake. There are claims that her family did not approve of her relationship because of caste differences.
According to a report by News Minute, the victim, named Sahana, worked at a private company in Kudlu Gate. On Tuesday, February 12, her father, Ramamurthy, went to the Hebbagodi police station in distress. He claimed that both he and his daughter had accidentally fallen into the lake.
He told the police that he lost control of his bike and ended up in the water because he had not slept the night before and experienced microsleep.
However, Sahana’s boyfriend, Nitin, has said that her family was against their relationship. He claimed that he and Sahana had been in love for over a year, but her parents refused to let them marry.
Nitin’s friend, Madan Kumar, said that the couple had been together for about 18 months after meeting through mutual friends. Sahana was from the Kuruba community, and Nitin was from the Naidu caste.
The situation became more serious when it was revealed that, the day before the incident, Ramamurthy had called Nitin to a friend’s house and reportedly told him he could not marry Sahana.
Although the police haven’t called it an “honour killing” yet, they have said that more investigation is needed.
“The father reported an accident, but given the allegations made, we are looking into all possibilities,” an officer from Hebbagodi police station said, according to TNM. The investigation is expected to become clearer once the post-mortem report is available.
