New Delhi: Vice Chancellor of Baba Farid University of Health Sciences, Dr Raj Bahadur, on Saturday resigned from his post after feeling humiliated by Punjab Health Minister Chetan Singh Jouramajra. The minister made the VC lie down on mattresses being used for patients.

Earlier in the day, visited Guru Gobind Singh Medical hospital where he inspected the condition of infrastructure and arrangements.

Following which, the minister asked the Vice Chancellor to lie down on the mattresses which were in poor condition noting that same bedding is used for the patients.

While taking stock of the incident, Federation of Resident Doctors Association (FORDA) condemned the act. It said: “derogatory behaviour met to the highest respectable doctor of Medical services of Punjab.”

The medical commission also said: “It has been observed at many instances that the political administrators use the power bestowed to them by the virtue of their office and rather than sharing the problems of administration they resort to find an easy escape for the insufficient health system by putting all kinds of blames on the shoulders of the doctors.”

FORDA further asked Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to intervene in the matter on urgent basis.
