Asansol Stampede: Three people were killed and five others injured in a stampede at a program where blankets were being distributed by BJP leaders at Asansol in West Bengal.

According to information, the stampede resulted from overcrowding at a blanket distribution event in Bengal’s West Burdwan district attended by Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari on Wednesday evening.

A large number of people had reached to take blankets.

According to the India Today report, the incident took place minutes after Suvendu Adhikari left the venue after his speech. The event was organised by former Asansol mayor and BJP leader Jitendra Tewari. Adhikari was the chief guest at the event.

The injured have been rushed to Asansol district hospital and are currently undergoing treatment.

Meanwhile, local police said that no permission was taken for the blanket distribution programme.
