Ahmedabad: The Sanathal Flyover Bridge, Ahmedabad, collapsed, which was constructed three months before. The Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority (AUDA) issued a notice to the construction and project management company.
The reason behind the damage is heavy rain, due to which water did not drain from the bridge, resulting in numerous potholes.
According to AUDA officials, the bridge’s drainage system was either inadequate or inadequately designed, adding to the accumulation of water during the rain. Following reports of deteriorating conditions, the bridge’s contractor allegedly sought to solve the problem by adding mud to the affected regions.
This tragedy followed the previous Morbi bridge accident, which killed 141 people and raised worries about corruption in Ahmedabad’s infrastructure construction. The authorities are resolved to conduct a comprehensive investigation and take serious action against the entities responsible for the bridge’s construction.
The 1.3 km long Sanathal Flyover Bridge was built at a cost of Rs 96 crore to relieve traffic congestion on Ahmedabad’s Ring Road. Given the bridge’s state, notifications were served to both the contractor and the project consultant, asking for an explanation for the bridge’s early collapse.
