Noida: Heavy rainfall in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand results in flooding and rising water levels in the Yamuna River. The Yamuna River has been flowing above the danger mark for the last two days as water is being released continuously from Hathini Kund Barrage. Due to this flood crisis looming over Noida city as well, and to protect the city, the Irrigation Department built a dam about 22 kilometres long, which was built after the severe flood in the year 1976.

But according to the latest information, there has been a crack in this dam behind Sector 151. Because of this, there is an atmosphere of panic in the surrounding rural areas. Lakhs of people live in the sectors, villages, and housing societies situated between the Yamuna River and the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway.

Thousands of illegal farmhouses are situated on the banks of the Yamuna from Okhla Bird Sanctuary to Momna Thal in Greater Noida. Flood water has filled these farmhouses. All the farmhouses are being vacated following the warning of the Irrigation Department. The owners of farmhouses are running away with their valuables.

On Wednesday, the Gautam Budh Nagar Fire Brigade conducted a rescue operation in the Khadar area of the Yamuna. Houses have been evacuated from the low-lying areas of Mangroli and Chhaproli villages. The Gaushala of the Noida Authority in the Yamuna Khadar area has also been evacuated. The fire brigade rescued 300 cows and calves.

On the other hand, a crack has been seen in the embankment of the Yamuna River. These cracks in the embankment are due to the rapid flow and pressure of the water. Nearby villagers say that this situation has been seen during the last 24 hours. In the last 24 hours, the amount of water in the Yamuna River has increased tremendously. On the other hand, the Irrigation Department, Revenue Department, and Gautam Budh Nagar District Administration are constantly monitoring the low-lying areas to keep an eye on the situation. The Irrigation Department has set up 17 flood outposts from Noida to Jewar. Control rooms have been set up at the collectorate and the headquarters of the irrigation department. A high alert has been declared in 60 villages near the Yamuna River, from Noida to Jewar.

If there is a leakage of water in the embankment, then this entire area will be rapidly waterlogged. In such a situation, people may have to face a lot of trouble. According to the information received, long cracks have been found in the embankment near Sector-151 and Sector-151A in Noida. The villagers have sent videos and photos of these cracks to the district administration and irrigation department. These videos are available for viewing on social media. People are expressing concern. On the other hand, Gautam Budh Nagar District Administration and Irrigation Department say that the dams of the Yamuna are being monitored round the clock. Residents of Noida and Greater Noida need not worry.
