New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Somnath Bharti organised an awareness and educational camp to spread awareness on menstrual hygiene at Begumpur Community Centre today.

During the event, Dr. Mansi Arya educated the women attendees on menstrual hygiene and helped them overcome all doubts they had.

With the help of NGO Humanity Infinite, Somnath Bharti also committed a monthly supply of sanitary pads to 500 menstruating girls and women who can’t afford them but want to switch over.

While addressing the event, MLA Bharti advised all the attendees to focus on their health and visit Mohalla Clinics to use the free tests facility provided by CM Arvind Kejriwal for getting checked routinely.

During the event, it was suggested by Somnathj Bharti to create small sanitary pad manufacturing units in these areas, which will not only provide napkins at no or minimal costs to the ladies but will also provide employment to the women residing in the area. This will make the women of the area self-reliant in both financially and to take care of their monthly need of the sanitary napkins at minimal or no cost. These beneficiaries can become the benefactors to the other ladies in future.

A ‘Swachta Saheli’ , who could be a teenager or young adult in school or college, an anganwadi worker, Asha worker, nurse or any woman in the society who can teach the uninformed women about the simple concept of menstrual hygiene and make them speak about their general health concerns and look for timely diagnosis and treatment. She is a friend these ladies can confide in about their health condition and share queries.

With the aim to encourage women to adopt menstrual hygiene practices and use sanitary pads or other equivalent measures during their monthly cycle.

He further took a challenge to make Malviya Nagar assembly the first assembly to educate every uninformed woman on menstrual hygiene and help them switch over to sanitary pads or menstrual cups or something of equal efficacy.
