New Delhi: There was a stir in the office of Sardar Sarovar Narmada Corporation last evening. The office is located in the Secretariat of Gandhinagar, Gujarat. Last evening a group of farmers entered the office. They then started carrying the goods kept there like chair, computer, monitor, printer, CPU etc.
Farmers reply on why they are confiscating goods
The farmers said that they have not yet been given compensation on being asked why did they stormed the Corporation office. They responded by saying that the court has ordered confiscation of good so they came to actualize it. The reasoning of the farmers left the officials at the Sardar Sarovar Corporation and the Secretariat astonished.
Acquisition of land was affirmed in 1986
The farmers reached the office with the confiscation warrant of the District Court. The case in point being the lands of Abhol village were acquired in the year 1986 by the government. The district court had ordered a collective compensation of Rs 1725 per acre. The compensation was attributed against per acre of land to the farmers.
Compensation was reduced by Rs 100
The district court had ordered land compensation of Rs 1725 per acre to the farmers. Later the High Court reduced it from Rs 100 to Rs 1625. Even after this, the corporation had given only Rs 1400 to the farmers. Even after reduction Rs 225 were left. Therefore, the court has ordered confiscation of the goods of the corporation office.
