Conituing ther stunning performance, minnows Afghanistan have turned into giant killers. After beating Sri Lanka in their opener, Afghanistan crushed Bangladesh by 136 runs. Set a target of 256, Bangladesh were bolwed out for 119 in 42.1 overs. Birthday boy Rashid Khan was Man of the Match. Following his half century, Rashid took 2 for 13 in 9 overs to guide Afghanistan to an emphatic win. Earlier, birthday boy Rashid Khan smashed a superb unbeaten half century and shared 95 runs with Gulbadin Naib for the unconquered eighth wicket as Afghanistan made a stunning fightback to post a competitive 255 for 7 in their Asia Cup here on Thursday.

Gold medal winner wrestler questions Khel Ratna to Kohli, may move court

Dejected over the denial of Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award, seasoned wrester Bajrang Punia on Thursday said he was "hurt" and questioned the selection criteria for the country's highest sporting honour. Despite winning gold medals in the Asian Games at Jakarta and the Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, his name did not feature in the final list of nominees. His list of laurels isn't limited to one season, as he had won a World Championship bronze medal in 2013 and silver in 2014. "I'm hurt for not being recognised for my talent and performances, I don't know what was the criteria of selection for this award," he told reporters here. "I tried calling Rathore sir's number (Sports Minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore), but he didn't even reply back. I'm going to meet him in person to enquire about the matter."

Sindhu, Srikanth keep Indian hopes alive in China Open

India's singles shuttlers Kidambi Srikanth and P.V. Sindhu advanced while mixed doubles and men's doubles pairs bowed out of the $1 million China Open World Tour Super 1000 tournament here Thursday. Srikanth defeated Suppanyu Avihingsanon of Thailand 21-12, 15-21, 24-22 in a marathon match which lasted around an hour while Rio Olympic silver medallist Sindhu edged past Thailand's Busanan Ongbamrungphan 21-23, 21-13, 21-18 in another match.

The Sports Ministry on Thursday approved the names of Indian cricket captain Virat Kohli and ace weightlifter Saikhom Mirabai Chanu for the country's highest sporting honour -- Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award which will be given away by President Ram Nath Kovind at a specially organised function at the Rashtrapati Bhawan on Tuesday. Both Kohli and Chanu will be presented a cash prize of Rs 7.5 lakh each apart from a medal and a citation. The ministry also released the names of 20 Arjuna awardees for the year which includes star woman cricketer Smriti Mandhana, sprinter Hima Das, javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra and table tennis star Manika Batra, among others.
