New Delhi: A passport is a document that is needed by every Citizen of India in order to travel abroad. It contains details such as the bearer’s name, date of birth, the date of issue, etc. Ministry of External Affairs of the Government of India issues Passport across India.
The passport application process takes up a good amount of time and can end up being a tiring one. However, people who need a passport for immediate international travel plans usually opt for the Tatkaal Passport service.
A Tatkaal scheme is a service in which one does not have to follow the general time-consuming process for availing passport as faster processing is done under the Tatkaal scheme.
Individuals not eligible for Tatkaal Passport
- Granted Citizenship status on the basis of naturalization or registration to Indian citizens.
- Citizens belonging to Indian descent but born outside India
- Applicants who got deported to India from other countries
- Individuals who changed their major name
- Applicants belonging to Nagaland but living outside Nagaland
- Residents of Jammu and Kashmir
- People born in Nagaland
- Minor children brought up by single parents
- Children adopted by Indian and Foreign parents
- People below the age of 18 and living in Nagaland
- Damaged passport which is beyond the point of recognition
- Lost or stolen passport
- Major changes in a person’s gender or appearance
- Changes in a person’s credentials
Procedure to apply for Tatkaal Passport
- Log on to the official Passport Seva website and register yourself.
- Once you have created the account, log in with your user ID and password.
- Select from two options – ‘Fresh/Re-issue’.
- In the scheme type choose “Tatkaal”.
- Upon downloading the application form, fill it with all the necessary details.
- After submitting the form online, complete the application procedure by making the payment.
- Take out the print of the receipt and book an appointment at your nearest Passport Seva Kendra.
Fee structure for Tatkaal Passport
- >15 years (36 pages) = Rs.3,000
- 15 to 18 years (36 pages and 10 years of validity) = Rs.3,500
- 15 to 18 years (60 pages and 10 years validity) = Rs.4,000
- 18 years and above (36 pages) = Rs.3,500
- 18 years and above (60 pages) = Rs.4,000
