As per the Income Tax Department, it takes around 4–5 weeks to credit the refund to the taxpayer’s bank account. Notably, the refund process starts only after the taxpayer e-verifies the return. The process is much swifter for taxpayers whose bank accounts are pre-validated.

Delays in refunds generally occur if the taxpayer’s account or bank details do not match the information provided.
