Vande Bharat Express: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch the first Vande Bharat Express in the Northeast today. The Vande Bharat will run between West Bengal’s New Jalpaiguri station and Assam’s Guwahati.
The North-East Frontier Railway (NFR), according to a senior railway official, is working hard to finalise the grand opening on May 29. Explain that the projected semi-high-speed train between New Jalpaiguri and Guwahati will be the first in the Northeast, the third in West Bengal, and the country’s 18th Vande Bharat Express.
Vande Bharat Express to complete 410 kilometres in six hours
The Vande Bharat Express would travel 410 kilometres from New Jalpaiguri to Guwahati in six hours. It would run six days a week and will stop at six stations: New-Jalpaiguri, Guwahati Junction, New Alipurduar, Kokrajhar, New Bongaigaon, and Kamakhya.
The train will depart from New Jalpaiguri Junction at 6.10 am and arrive in Guwahati in the late afternoon. The Vande Bharat Express will leave Guwahati at 4.30 pm and arrive in New Jalpaiguri around 10.20 pm.
Rail network being built up to Rangpo in Sikkim
Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav declared in March that the Vande Bharat Express would arrive in Rangpo, Sikkim, by December 2024. The railway network is being built all the way to Rangpo.
Vaishnav stated that the Sewak-Rangpo railway tracks would connect the northeastern state to Bengal via at least 14 tunnels and 17 bridges. According to the Union Minister, this segment is likely to be completed this year.
