U.S. May Face Medicine Supply Crisis, Drug Shortages; Manufacturers Pressure Trump Administration For..

US President Donald Trump imposed import tariffs on Chinese goods. The Trump administration is looking contended, but the industry didn’t. Due to tariffs, the citizens of the United States may face problems. The cost of medical treatment may rise, and they may see a dearth of medicines.

The American medical industry has expressed its displeasure before the Trump administration. According to a report published in Reuters, The Trump administration is facing pressure from the US hospitals and drug manufacturers. They are demanding exemption from US tariffs over equipment and drug-related needs. 

The drug manufacturers and hospitals say that the cost of medicine will rise due to the tariff and there could be an impact on the medical product supply chain.

In a letter to the Trump administration, the American Hospital Association said the tariffs will impact the medicines for heart and cancer and antibiotic drugs like Amoxicillin.  

Before the announcement of tariffs, four drug lobbyists and a pharmaceutical executive told the news agency that had put pressure on the Trump administration for an assurance to keep the medical sector out of any tariffs. 

According to a hospital lobbying group, American drug manufacturers procure 30% of raw materials from China. It is used in  5000 hospitals and healthcare systems. China is also a supplier of disposable face masks and plastic hand gloves.
