Toll Tax: Travelling on national highways and expressways could be more costly from April 1 as The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) is planning to hike the toll tax rate by 5-10 percent, a report said.
According to a report published on ABP News website, The tariff revision is an annual practice as per The National Highways fee (Determination of Rates and Collection) Rules,2008.
The NHAI will send revised toll rates to all Project Implementation Units (PIU) by March 25. The new rate will come into effect after approval of the Ministry of Road and Transport.
NHAI is planning to increase toll tax by 5 per cent per trip for cars and light vehicles and 10 percent for heavy vehicles.
In 2022, NHAI increased the toll rate by 10 to 15 percent for all types of vehicles which led hike in toll rates between 10 to 60 Rupees for a trip.
The current toll rate is Rs 2.19 per kilometre for travelling on National Highways.
