TRAI to conduct survey on concerns related to tariffs in rural, urban areas

New Delhi: The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) announced on Monday that it will survey wireless and wireline customers in the licenced service regions of Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Gujarat, and Delhi in September about telecom prices and related concerns in both urban and rural areas.

The study will focus on questions including whether tariff offerings are simple to find, simple to comprehend, and whether tariffs on offer match consumer requirements, in addition to knowledge of current consumer protection measures.

“The objective is three-fold from consumer perspective,” the sector watchdog said in a statement. It added that it wanted to understand the consumer views on tariffs offerings. Secondly, it wanted to gauge the awareness and efficacy of regulatory provisions related to consumer protection and, thirdly, “to understand the efficacy of the transparency framework in publishing tariff offers in advertisements given by the telecom service providers”.

It will include users of the wired and wireless telephone segments as well as wired and wireless broadband services offered by telecommunications carriers and independent Internet service providers.
