TCS layoff: Employees Losing Jobs Due to THIS — Here’s What’s Happening Inside the Tata Group Company

TCS layoff controversy explained: Employees claim they are losing jobs over a 'process' with opaque evaluations. Here’s what’s happening inside the Tata Group company

TCS layoff: Concerns are growing over the TCS layoffs, and the process the company has adopted to check employees’ competency has triggered controversy. There are also reports emerging of employees being forced to resign, including those with barely two years of tenure. So what are the allegations that the employees and their forum raise?

Employees speak out on exams

The allegations, highlighted by the Forum for IT Employees (FITE) on X, focus on internal exams. They claim that these internal exams are being used to decide job security rather than to assess skills. According to FITE, more and more employees are being pushed to leave the company after internal tests. The way these tests are conducted is not clear and transparent. “It’s no longer just long-timers. Even employees with barely 2 years of tenure are being forced to resign,” the tweet said. In one case, a female employee—already denied alimony due to her TCS job—was terminated, leaving her with no income or support.

Employees ask for transparency in the exam process

The forum has demanded that TCS share exam papers and scores with employees to ensure transparency. “When an exam decides someone’s livelihood, employees have the right to see where they went wrong,” FITE said, criticising the 70–80% passing criteria and calling for fairer evaluation.

Maharashtra Labour Minister tagged on the posts

TCS layoff: Maharashtra Labour Minister Akash Fundkar, who represents the Khamgaon constituency, has been asked to pay attention to the issue. FITE posted on X, saying that as the Labour Minister, he should make the protection of IT employees a priority and questioned what is happening inside TCS. In the post, FITE also tagged Fundkar along with the Chief Minister’s Office, the Maharashtra Labour Ministry and the Maharashtra Women’s Commission.

Calls for Labour Law Reforms in IT Sector

TCS layoff: The issue has sparked a larger discussion about workers’ rights in India’s IT sector. A social media user commented that without strong labour laws, IT companies are free to hire and fire employees as they wish. The user added that if a company tried the same thing in Ireland, they would quickly realise who really has the power.
