New Delhi: India's largest conglomerate Tata announced its determined plans on Wednesday to invest 4 billion pounds for establishing an electric car battery factory in the UK. For the first time, Tata's gigafactory to be set up outside which will be a major boost for the automobile industry in fulfilling domestic battery production in the long run. Tata Sons chairman N Chandrasekaran in a statement said, “Today, I am delighted to announce the Tata Group will be setting up one of Europe’s largest battery cell manufacturing facilities in the UK. Our multi-billion-pound investment will bring state-of-the-art technology to the country, helping to power the automotive sector’s transition to electric mobility, anchored by our own business, JLR. "With this strategic investment, the Tata Group further strengthens its commitment to the UK, alongside our many companies operating here across technology, consumer, hospitality, steel, chemicals, and automotive,” added Chandrasekaran.

Rishi Sunak's Govt on Tata's investment

Reacting to this huge step taken by Tata, the UK government released a statement in which the government said that the factory will be dispensing almost half of the battery production needed by 2030. The UK government further added in its statement that the production will be “turbocharging UK’s switch to zero emissions vehicles”. Tata with 40GWh will be amongst the largest factories in Europe. Through the establishment, nearly 4000 skilled jobs will be generated. The job creation will also apply to the supply chain for battery materials and raw materials, eventually augmenting the UK economy.
