Stock Market: India’s key equity benchmarks, Sensex and Nifty, concluded trading in negative territory on Tuesday, October 22, 2024. The BSE Sensex, comprising 30 key stocks, declined 930.55 points to close at 80,220.72 points. The Nifty50 index on the NSE concluded Tuesday’s trading session in negative territory, declining 309 points to 24,472.10 level.
Notable losers among the Sensex constituents on Tuesday included Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M), Tata Steel, Powergrid, SBI, Tata Motors. ICICI Bank was the only gainer on the Sensex during the day.
Sensex and Nifty, commenced trading on a positive note today. The Sensex surged 239.33 points to reach 81,390.60 points, while the Nifty50 also rallied 72.95 points to reach 24,854.05 levels. According to the reports, the total market capitalization of BSE-listed companies declined sharply to Rs 444.7 lakh crore, a decrease of ₹9 lakh crore from the previous session’s Rs 453.7 lakh crore.
Market sentiment is currently impacted by three primary factors: escalating geopolitical tensions, uncertainty surrounding the 2024 US presidential election and persistent selling pressure from foreign investors.

Reliance Industries (RIL) – Settle 1.86% down at Rs 2,687.30 per share.
JSW Steel – Settle 1.26% down at Rs 969 per share.
HCL Technologies – Settle 1.15% down at Rs 1,821.30 per share.
Tech Mahindra – Settle 0.29% down at Rs 1,696.20 per share.
Adani Ports – Settle 0.87% down at Rs 1,363.30 per share.
ITC – Settle 0.40% down at Rs 481.70 per share.
HDFC Bank – Settle 0.85% down at Rs 1,714.10 per share.
Notably, 29 of the 30 firms of Sensex settled down in red, whereas shares only 1 Sensex packed company was in green on Tuesday.
