On the occasion of Guru Nanak Jayanti today, investors will have to wait another day as Indian stock markets remain closed on Wednesday, November 5. Trading will resume on Thursday, November 6, after the mid-week holiday that marks the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the founder of Sikhism.

The holiday comes after a weak trading session on Tuesday, where benchmark indices ended lower amid continued selling by foreign institutional investors (FIIs). The Sensex fell over 500 points, while the Nifty closed 170 points lower, reflecting cautious sentiment ahead of key global economic data.

Market Closed Across all Segments

Both the National Stock Exchange and teh Bombay Stock Exchange are closed today across all trading segments- these include Equity, derivatives, securities lending and borrowing (SLB), currency derivatives, and electronic gold receipts ( EGRs)

MCX Also Closed Today

Trading at the Multo commodity exchange (MCX) is also suspended for both the morning and evening sessions on account of Guru Nanak Jayanti. Commodity markets, including those dealing in Gold, Silver, Crude Oil, and Other futures, will also remain shut throughout teh day and reopen for normal trading on Thursday, November 6.

Stock market holidays ahead

According to the official Stock Market Holiday calendar for 2025, Dalal Street will observe a total of 14 trading holidays this year.

After today’s closure for Guru Nanak Jayanti, only one more tarding holiday remains for teh year- December 25. Apart from these scheduled holidays, teh stock market also remains closed on all Saturdays and Sundays as part of the regular weekend schedule.

With Fiis turning net sellers in recent sessions, domestic investors will be watching for signals from global markets and commodity price movements, especially oil and gold, which have seen fluctuation sin teh recent days.
