Share Market Today: The Indian stock market benchmark indices, Sensex and Nifty 50, settled down in red on Monday, December 9, 2024. The Sensex (index with top 30 firms) tumbled 200.66 points to settle at 81,508.46 on Monday. Nifty50 (index with top 50 firms) also declined 58.80 points to settle at 24,619 points.
Additionally, foreign investors withdrew an amount of Rs 21,612 crore from Indian equities in November. These investors had pulled out Rs 94,017 crore from Indian stock market in October 2024. However, these investors invested Rs 24,454 crore from the Indian equities this month so far.
The Sensex and Nifty indices surged over 2% last week, marking their strongest gains since early June, driven by the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) decision to lower the Cash Reserve Ratio (CRR) to 4% from 4.5%. The reduction in CRR is anticipated to boost liquidity, stimulate credit growth, and contribute to the country’s economic revival. Meanwhile, the RBI kept while the repo rate unchanged at 6.5%.
The market’s focus has shifted to the US CPI data, due to be released on December 11, as it will play a crucial role in determining the future path of interest rates and foreign investments in emerging markets, including India. Furthermore, the upcoming release of India’s CPI data on December 12 will play a pivotal role in determining the timing of the RBI’s next rate cut.
