Analysing the data for the week, Sensex surged 2,876.12 points and Nifty was up 1,011.8 points in a week. Moreover, foreign investors infused Rs 18,620 crores in the Indian equities this month, so far.

What Impacted The Share Market?

Indian stock markets had a strong week on the back of global optimism and hopes of easing trade tensions. The week for Indian equities began on a very positive note. The Sensex surged 2975.43 points to close at 82,429.90 on Monday, May 12, 2025. Meanwhile, Nifty50 was up 916.70 points to close at 24,924.70 points.

The surge came after tensions between India and Pakistan ease. India and Pakistan on Saturday announced to stop all military actions and firing across their shared border immediately. The tensions between the 2 countries had sharply increased after a deadly terror attack in Pahalgam, which resulted in the deaths of 26 people. As the ceasefire between India and Pakistan begins, several tough measures taken by India to maintain pressure on Pakistan remain in place, including the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty.

This week, the share market was largely influenced by the easing tensions between India and Pakistan. Moreover, Foreign Portfolio Investors (FPIs) made strong investments in the Indian equity markets this week, bringing in Rs 4,452.3 crore between May 13 and May 16, as per the data available with the National Securities Depository Limited (NSDL).

The highest inflows during the week were recorded on Friday, when FPIs invested a net amount of Rs 5,746 crore in Indian equities. However, the trend was not consistent throughout the week. On Tuesday, the markets saw a net outflow of Rs 2,388 crore, indicating some level of uncertainty or profit booking by foreign investors.

With this week’s inflows, the total FPI investment into Indian equities so far in the month of May has reached Rs 18,620 crore.
