SCO summit: PM Modi talks about AI-based Indian language platform Bhashini, humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday addressed the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit virtually and he spoke about India's AI-based language platform Bhashini to remove language barriers within the SCO.
PM Modi further said the language platform is to be taken as an example of digital technology and inclusive growth. During the virtual session PM Modi said, "SCO can become a significant voice for reforms within the UN and other global institutions. I am delighted that Iran is joining the SCO family as a new member."
At the Summit, he further discussed the ongoing crisis in Afghanistan and spoke about that how the situation in the country holds a direct impact on the security of all of the member countries.
The Prime Minister said, "India's concerns and expectations regarding Afghanistan are the same as most of the SCO Member countries. We have to make united efforts for the welfare of the people of Afghanistan...It is important that the land of Afghanistan is not used to spread unrest in neighbouring nations or promote extremist ideologies."
PM Modi said that terrorism is a global threat which disturbs regional harmony.
Meanwhile, he also stated, "We will have to fight against terrorism...Some countries use cross-border terrorism as an instrument of their policies and give shelter to terrorists. SCO should not hesitate to criticize such countries. SCO countries should condemn it. There should be no double standards on terrorism."
Earlier, it was reported that Iran will officially attend/join the meeting as the new permanent member of the alliance.
In September 2022, India attained the SCO presidency from Uzbekistan at the Samarkand Summit.
