New Delhi: India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday celebrated the achievement of Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY), as the number of accounts in the Yojhna has crossed the mark of 50 crore. PM Modi added that it is an important achievement for the scheme launched in 2014.

Women learning the number game

According to the report submitted by several banks, the number of accounts in Jan Dhan Yojana has crossed the mark of 50 crores till August 9 2023. In a figurative sense, around 56 per cent of accounts belong to women and 67 per cent of accounts have been opened in rural/semi-urban areas.

PM Modi on X (formerly Twitter), said that he is happy to see that half of the accounts belong to woman  power. around 67 per cent of the accounts were created in rural/semi-urban areas. He also ensured that the benefits of financial incorporation will reach every corner of the country.

As per the PIB release, the average balance in Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana account is Rs 4,076 crore and approximately more than 5.5 crore accounts are getting the benefits of Direct Bank Transfer (DBT).

What is Jan Dhan Yojana?

Pradhan Mantri Jan-Dhan Yojana (PMJDY) is a National Mission for financial inclusion so that users can enjoy access to financial services. These accounts can be opened with Zero balance. Moreover, if the account holder is wanting to get a chequebook, then in that case he/she will have to fulfil the minimum balance criteria.

Opening account online

PMJDY is a secure option for those who want to grow their wealth portfolio, the procedure of opening accounts is completely online. The applicant just has to get the application form from the official website of PMJDY or the website of any other bank. With all the proper documents, submit the form with all the necessary details.

Eligibility

1. Indian citizen
2. 10 years of age is mandatory
3. Applicant should not be holding any other bank.
