Digital payment app Paytm on Friday clarified about the Google Play notification that caused panic among users regarding changes to its UPI handle. The company stressed that there is no disruption to UPI payments on Paytm, and both consumer and merchant transactions remain seamless. The panic arose from concerns that Paytm might stop working after August 31.
What’s Changing?
Paytm has now cleared the air, stating that Paytm UPI continues to work at Google Play along with regular payment services. However, it added that the update is relevant only for recurring payments such as subscription billing.
The company noted that this transition is part of its migration to new UPI handles, following approval from the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) to operate as a Third Party Application Provider (TPAP).
Google Play had issued the alert as the deadline to complete the update for recurring mandate is 31st August 2025.
“On August 31, @PayTM UPI handles will be deprecated and won’t be an accepted form of payment on Google Play. This is per instructions by the National Payment Corporations of India (NCPI),” the official notification from Google Play stated.
What Users Must Do?
In a post on X, Paytm has mentioned what the users have to do next and what the deadline is all about. The change update is relevant only for recurring payments such as subscription billing.
