Passport renewal: Because Indian passports are valid for 5 to 10 years from the date of issue, it appears acceptable to renew your passport two or three months before it expires. A passport is an important identification document that can be used for a range of professional purposes. Renewal applications for passports can be submitted online in a matter of minutes.

Passport renewal details:

The majority of countries will not allow you to enter (or board an airline) if your passport does not have at least six months remaining after your return date. Some nations have less stringent requirements, such as the 26 European Schengen Accord members, who only require that your passport be valid for three months after your date of departure. Some countries require a passport to be valid for at least one month before entering the country, while others do not (other than it being valid during your stay, of course).

Certain supporting documents must be presented along with the renewal application for renewing a passport. Passport renewal requirements varies between juveniles and adults, as well as across passport kinds.

Documents required for Passport Renewal are as follows:

  • Two self-attested photocopies of the passport’s first two and last two pages
  • The original old passport
  • Self-attested EC/NON-EC page
  • Passport Issuing Authority’s self-attested observation page, if any
  • In the case of a Short Validity Passport (SVP), a self-attested copy of the validity extension page is required.
  • Proof that eliminates the need for the Short Validity Passport (SVP).

Steps-wise process for applying Passport Renewal:

Step 1: Get register on the Passport Seva website – www.passportindia.gov.in

Step 2: In case if you are already registered, click on ‘Existing User Login’ to login.

Step 3: Select ‘New User Register Now’ if you are not registered.

Step 4: Select the nearest passport office to you. (Based on your address)

Step 5: create a login ID afer entering your name, date of birth, and password

Step 6: Your activation link will be emailed to you.

Step 7: Go to the email’s link and activate the account.
