India’s Income Tax Department has launched PAN 2.0, an upgraded version of the Permanent Account Number card. The newly introduced system brings enhanced accessibility, ensures secure data storage, and streamlines application and verification processes. Interestingly, the new PAN Card now also incorporates a QR code and offers a host of digital functionalities.

PAN 2.0 rules state Indian PAN cardholders can request a reprint of their PAN card. The reprinted PAN card with the QR code can be received by the taxpayer by paying fee of Rs 50. The registered email address as well. The application for a reprint of the PAN card can be submitted after updating the PAN details in the income tax records if any. Furthermore, post updation of details, the updated PAN card with a QR code will be sent to the taxpayer’s registered email address. Additionally, the facility for correction and updation of the PAN details is available for free.

Individuals should note the issuing agency of existing PAN card, prior to reprinting applications. The income tax department has authorized two agencies to issue, update and offer PAN-related services. Protean (formerly known as NSDL e-governance) and UTI Infrastructure Technology and Services Ltd (UTIITSL). Check the back of your PAN to know which agency to contact for a PAN card reprint with a QR code.

Protean- PAN Card Reprint

Given below are the steps a taxpayer can follow on Protean (formerly known as NSDL)

Step 1: Visit https://www.onlineservices.nsdl.com/paam/ReprintEPan.html
Step 2: On the webpage, enter the required details – PAN, Aadhaar (Only for individuals) and date of birth. Select the required tick boxes and click on ‘Submit’.
Step 3: A new webpage will open on your screen where you are required to check the current details as updated with the income tax department. Remember the details will be partially masked. Select where you want to receive the one-time password (OTP).
Step 4: An OTP will be sent on the chosen option. The OTP received will be valid for 10 minutes only. Enter the OTP and click on validate.
Step 5: After validating OTP, you will be redirected to the mode of payment option. You can make the payment of Rs 50 for applying for a PAN card reprint with a QR code. Select the tick box on ‘I agree to terms of service’ and click on submit.
Step 6: A new webpage will open where you are required to make the payment of Rs 50. After completing payment, an acknowledgment receipt will be generated. Save this acknowledgment receipt as it allows you to download the e-PAN from the NSDL website after 24 hours.

UTIITSL- PAN Card Reprint

The PAN card will be reprinted and dispatched to the registered address. The new PAN card should be received within 15-20 days.
