Odisha farmer grows world’s most expensive mango, costs Rs 2.5-3 lakh per kg

Rakshyakar Bhoi, a farmer in Odisha’s Kalahandi district has claimed that he has grown mango’s most costly variety ‘Miyazaki’ in his orchard.

Miyazaki mango costs between Rs 2.5 lakh to 3 lahks per kg in the international market for its unique taste.

As per reports, farmer Bhoi, who happens to be a teacher also and a native of Kandulguda village in the Dharamgarh subdivision, has been growing several breeds of mangoes in his farm. He sourced ‘Miyazaki’s seed from the state horticulture department and sowed it in his orchard. 

The ‘Miyazaki’ variety of mango is originally a Japanese breed. Reportedly, it has huge demand in Europe and other developed continents for its distinctive flavor and medical value.

“It is a unique variety of mango as it has high vitamins A and C and also has a unique taste. It protects us from diseases. It is an antioxidant and contains dietary fiber, potassium,” said the farmer. 

The ‘Miyazaki’ is also named ‘Red Sun’ and Bengali ‘Surja Dim’. 

Officials said that more research is needed to grow these kinds of varieties in the region.
