NSE Holidays: India’s stock markets are gearing up for Diwali-special ‘Muhurat trading’ as the country celebrates one of its biggest festivals. Even though Diwali falls on Monday, October 20, the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and National Stock Exchange (NSE) will remain open.
NSE BSE Holidays: Is stock market open today?
The stock market is open for regular trading today but will remain closed tomorrow, October 21, for Diwali. A special one-hour “Muhurat trading” session is scheduled for Tuesday, October 21, instead of the full trading day. In 2025, the BSE and NSE have 14 official holidays, including the Diwali holiday on October 21. A complete market holiday will be observed on October 22.
Muhurat trading date and time
The Muhurat trading session, celebrated as an auspicious beginning to the Hindu New Year, is one of the most eagerly awaited events in the stock market calendar.
Date: Tuesday, October 21
Time: 1:45 pm to 2:45 pm (pre-open from 1:30 pm)
During the one-hour Muhurat trading session, investors place small buy and sell orders to symbolically welcome prosperity and good luck for the year ahead. The tradition holds that participating in this auspicious hour can bring financial growth.
Typically, the session sees a positive mood in the market and lower trading volumes, with the Sensex and Nifty often ending on a higher note.
