Google Play services: Google said on Tuesday that it is offering UPI Autopay as a payment method for subscription-based purchases for its play store in India.
The National Payments Corporation of India introduced Autopay under UPI 2.0, which enables users to set up regular payments through any UPI application that supports the capability. Since 2019, UPI has been a payment method on the Google Playstore.
“With the introduction of UPI Autopay on the platform, we aim to extend the convenience of UPI to subscription-based purchases, helping many more people access helpful and delightful services – while enabling local developers to grow their subscription-based businesses on Google Play,” said Saurabh Agarwal, head of Google Play Retail & Payments Activation – India, Vietnam, Australia & New Zealand.
According to the business’ blog post, UPI Autopay makes creating subscriptions simple. Users only need to tap on the payment method in the shopping cart, choose “Pay with UPI,” and then authorise the purchase in a supported UPI app after choosing a subscription plan to buy.
