News24 Exclusive: 8th Pay Commission Expected Timeline REVEALED!

"DoPT (Department of Personnel and Training) has written a letter to us for the Terms and References, and we are going to reply to them very soon," said Shiv Gopal Mishra.

The central government recently announced the formation of 8th Pay Commission. Shiv Gopal Mishra, secretary staff side NCJCM (National Council – Joint Consultative Machinery), in an exclusive interview with News24’s Akshat Mittal, revealed the expected timelines of the new pay commission. He hinted on the expected timelines of the formation, recommendations and implementation of the new Pay Commission.

8th Pay Commission: Expected Timelines

Mishra said that the new Pay Commission will be formed soon. He said, “DoPT (Department of Personnel and Training) has written a letter to us for the Terms of Reference, and we are going to reply to them very soon. Afterwards, DoPT Secretary might call a meeting of Staff Side. I hope that our work on Terms and References will be done in 7–10 days. Nomination of member for the Pay Commission is the work of government. I hope that too will be done in 7–10 days.” Mishra said the government is really fast this time.

Mishra also gave the expected timelines of the new Pay Commission. “I’m optimistic that the 8th Pay Commission will be established by February 15th, 2025.” “The 8th Pay Commission’s report will be finalized by November 30th, and the government will review it in December for further consideration,” he added. Mishra said that the new Pay Commission can be implemented from January 2026 in the country.

Notably, the then UPA government formed the 7th Pay Commission in February 2014. Furthermore, this Pay Commission submitted its report to the government in November 2015 after which the government implemented its recommendations from January 1, 2016, which increased the pay structure of central government employees and pensioners.
