Netizens Voice Frustration Over Overcrowding Despite Indian Railways Running 7,663 Special Trains From Oct 1 To Nov 30

Indian railway on Tuesday said in a statement for public, that it has notified the services of 7,663 festive special trains on account of long festival season. These services were rolled out on 1 October extended until 30 November. According to stats, this is 73% more compared to the October- November session last year.

Even after the special services during festival, Passengers who were traveling in this season, reported of overcrowding. The social media warriors were not behind, They posted about how the trains were overcrowded and at an extend where passengers were packed in toilets.

“For the Pooja/Diwali/Chath rush 2024, a total of 7,663 special train services have been notified between 1st October 2024 to 30th November 2024. In the same period last year 4,429 trips were operated. This is 73 per cent more than last year,” a press release from the Railway Board said.

“Indian Railways fulfilled the transport demand of 957.24 lakh non-suburban passengers (in reserved and unreserved segments) during Diwali/Chhath 2024 (24th October to 4th November) as compared to 923.33 lakh passengers in the corresponding period last year (5th November to 16th November 2023). Therefore, 33.91 lakh more passengers travelled in 2024 as compared to 2023,” it added.

The Indian Railways, 1.2 crore passengers were carried on 4 November, where 19.43 lakh were reserved and 1.01 crore unreserved non- suburban. Boards claims that this was the highest single day figure for this year.

Even after the extensive measures taken by Indian Railways, social media platforms are flooded with videos and posts showing how overcrowded the trains still are. Social media users never hesitate to give a reality check.

There are many other viral videos showing how overcrowded Indian Railways trains are. In one such post, a man is seen sleeping in the toilet of a running train.

The overcrowded trains are typically coming from famous and important railway stations. Several posts have shown stations packed with people, with some even seen getting inside through the windows. These videos circulating on social media are quite disturbing, which is why many people hesitate to travel by train.
