Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s two-day visit kicked off on February 12. During his visit, the prime minister will meet US President Donald Trump and other members of his administration. The Prime Minister stayed at Blair House, located in front of the White House. Blair House is a 200-year-old historic building that is a special accommodation for the guests of US Presidents.
History Of Blair House
Blair House was constructed in 1824, and it is a collection of four properties. The four properties are: Blair House, Lee House, 700, and 700 Jackson Place. All look different from the outside, but they are unified from the inside.
The structure is named after its second owner, Preston Francis Blair, who purchased it in 1837. The Blair House has 119 rooms, 14 guest bedrooms, and 35 bathrooms.
After the Second World War, the White House witnessed a dearth of space due to the guests. All heads of state and chief of staff stayed at the White House. Then, the US government took it on rent in 1942, but later at the year-end, the government bought it for $1.50 lakh.
The value of Blair House has gone up 20 times from its original price of $1.50 lakh. Its current value is $30 lakh (approximately Rs 26 crore).
If we compare Reliance Industries chairman Mukesh Ambani’s home, Antilia, Blair House’s value is no match to it. The value of Ambani’s home is Rs 15000 crore, which is 500 times costlier than Blair House. As many as 577 Blair House will be constructed at the cost of Ambani’s home.
