MSC IRINA, The World’s Largest Container Ship, Arrives At Vizhinjam International Seaport

Vizhinjam International Seaport, operated by Adani Ports and SEZ Ltd (APSEZ), is India’s first Mega Transshipment Container Terminal.

The world’s largest container ship, MSC IRINA, docked at Vizhinjam International Seaport in Kerala. This marks a significant milestone for the country’s shipping and logistics capabilities. Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ) on Sunday said that MSC IRINA will start its first journey from the Vizhinjam Seaport today, June 9.

This will be the inaugural visit of this vessel to a South Asian port, said the company. “The MSC IRINA, recognised as the world’s largest container ship by TEU (Twenty-foot Equivalent Unit) capacity, is set to dock at the Vizhinjam International Seaport on Monday morning and will be berthed till Tuesday,” read a statement by Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ).

Measuring 399.9 meters in length and 61.3 meters in width, the MSC IRINA is roughly four times the length of a standard FIFA football field. Launched in March 2023, this vessel began its maiden voyage the following month.

Vizhinjam International Seaport

Vizhinjam International Seaport, operated by Adani Ports and SEZ Ltd (APSEZ), is India’s first Mega Transshipment Container Terminal. This world-class, future-ready port is the only transshipment hub in the Indian subcontinent, closest to the international shipping routes, and centrally located on the Indian coastline. It is just 10 nautical miles (19 km) from the busy east-west shipping channel that connects Europe, the Persian Gulf, Southeast Asia and the Far East.
