New Delhi: The share of self employed in India’s manufacturing sector has only risen since 2018, reveals a detailed research by news daily, ‘The Economic Times’ on the latest job data released by the government of India’s Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS). The publication also finds that nearly half the employees in the manufacturing sector are self-employed, currently. While, a higher percentage of women (77.8%) in this particular are self-employed while, salaried women’s share stand at 17.4%. Lets see what some of the other findings of India’s latest job data pattern reveal!
Share of self employed is highest in Agriculture (82%) followed by Trade, Accommodation & Food Services and Transport. The share of self employed under the Trade sector stands at 67.9% while that of salaried individuals is 29.1%
Accommodation & Food Services:
Regular wage earners eat up 33.5% of the pie of Accommodation & Food Services sector. While, the share of self employed stand at 57%.
Transport:
Transport sector is also heavily dominated by self employed class which constitute 53.7% of the total work force. While, salaried class constitute 35% of job market under this sector.
While, the share of salaried individuals are highest in Mining & Quarrying and other sectors like Electricity, Water, etc.
Mining & Quarrying:
Work force of the Mining & Quarrying sector comprises of 64.4% salaried class and 10% self employed.
Electricity, Water, etc
As far as other sectors like Electricity, Water, etc are concerned, according to the PLFS data, salaried class constitute 74.8% while self earning comprise 19.6% of the pie.
Construction:
This sector is made of 14.2% self employed and 5.2% labourers. While, casual labours constitute bulk of share (80.6%) of total number of employed people under the construction sector.
Which Sector Created Highest Jobs In India?
The agricultural sector has also created the highest number of jobs in India. More than half of the country’s workforce is employed in this sector. It also accounts for 18% of India’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
